Post Student Exchange in Cheng Shiu University

Hi there! 你好!

Whoever you are who read this post I believe you have interest for studying in Taiwan or something related to this beautiful island. I'm Jessica (At the most left side at the picture). Me and my friends, five of us got a chance to have student exchange program in Cheng Shiu University Taiwan. The most common question that we often get is "Why you choose Taiwan as your study destination?" Well we study in Binus University, a university in West Jakarta. Our university, especially our department, department of International Relations has a close relationship with Cheng Shiu University (正修科技大學). It might be your first time to hear about Cheng Shiu University. Well, It's not as popular as Taiwan National University in Taipei or Sun Yat Sen University in Kaohsiung. But I left a very good impression when I was studying there. We were in Taiwan for 4 months and half. We arrived in September and went back in January. It was too fast for us.

I'll describe about Cheng Shiu University. When we arrived in Cheng Shiu University, we were shocked as the university was very big. If you know Sun Yat Sen University, may be it is as big as Sun Yat Sen (Excluding the mountain and beach). They have around 20 buildings and they have a lot of free space. It took you a while to walks from one edge to another edge. They have a four floors building which is being used for library. The International Office is located at third floor of main building. My favorite place is secret garden, a small garden located behind the library. Cheng Shiu has dormitories for the student as some students are from outside the city. The university and the dormitory is connected by a small bridge.

About this student exchange program. I have bad news about it as the program that I applied just for Binusian only. For students who are pursuing their undergraduate or graduate degree, your university might have international office. That's how you can apply to go for student exchange program and check whether your university make Cheng Shiu University as the partner. They usually ask you to fill the application letter, make study plan, TOEFL score, minimum GPA, health check up, and interview. For you who are looking for university to study in, Cheng Shiu University offers several scholarships which can be seen on their official website. Some of my friends from The Philippines got scholarship in different form. One got discount for the school fee, one got allowance every month, the other one got free for dormitory fee. Cheng Shiu is a little bit different from other universities that u might have ever heard. In Cheng Shiu University, almost all of the international students speak Chinese. All of the subjects are delivered in Chinese.

So if you are not Chinese speaking people means you can't study in CSU? Well, not really. My Filipinos friends can't speak or even write Chinese but they survive. Including us. Me, I can speak daily Chinese and write a little. My friends are all new Chinese learners. Fortunately, the lecturers are very kind so that even if the subject is delivered in Chinese, the lecture will kindly repeat it in English. Although some lectures are kind, some might be not. So be careful before you choose your courses. As exchange student, we choose the subjects that can be transfer to our home university. That means the subject that we choose have to be accepted by the lectures in our home university.

Above everything, the things that I like the most is the people. My friends in Cheng Shiu University, they don't really speak English. Well, language barrier! But that triggered us to start speaking Chinese. The sellers around the dormitory do not speak English at all. We will end up starving if we don't start speaking Chinese. That made us speak Chinese and our Chinese keep improving. Finally language barrier, even though sometimes we still feel it, but it become less and less. I can't describe how I feel to study in Cheng Shiu University just by few words. Interesting, wonderful, nice, will be lasted forever in heart.

Apakah kalau kita sudah terlanjur kuliah di Indonesia dan tiba-tiba berniat pindah ke Taiwan ada kemungkinan untuk tetap di level yang saat ini (transfer) atau harus mengulang dari awal?

    Thank you

hospitality dan hospital itu beda jauh.
kalau hospitality itu bahasa Indonesianya = perhotelan
kalau hospital itu ya = rumah sakit.. =D

jadi kalau perhotelan itu belajarnya memasak, manajemen hotel, dll
hospital itu belajarnya ilmu medis kali ya..
