Different Saying Taiwan & Mainland China: Transportation

There are some different how to saying transportation between Taiwan and Mainland China.

  • Subway

Taiwan : 捷運 (jié yùn)

捷 (jié) = quick

運 (yùn) = transport

==> (Rapid Transport) or In Taiwan we can said MRT

Mainland : 地鐵 (dì tiě)

地 (dì) = ground

鐵 (tiě) = iron (metal)

  • Public Bus 

Taiwan : 公車 (gōng chē)

公 (gōng) = public

車 (chē) = car

Mainland : 公交車 (gōng jiāo chē)

交 (jiāo) =  traffic

  • Taxi

Taiwan : 計程車 (jì chéng chē)

計 (jì) = to calculate

程 (chéng) = journey

車 (chē) = car

Mainland : 出租汽車 (chū zū qì chē) / 出租車 (chū zū chē)

出 (chē) = to go out

租 (zū) = to rent

汽車 (qì chē) = car

In Mainland, Rental car they said :

租過來的車 (zū guò lái de chē)

過來 (guò lái) = to come

And how to said to taxi driver to turn left or right?

Taiwan : 左轉 (zuǒ zhuǎn) or 右轉 (yòu zhuǎn)

左 (zuǒ) = left

右 (yòu) = right

轉 (zhuǎn) = to turn

Mainland : 左拐 (zuǒ guǎi) or 右拐 (yòu guǎi)

拐 (guǎi) = to turn

  • Bicycle

Taiwan : 腳踏車 (jiǎo tà chē)

腳 (jiǎo) = foot

踏 (tà) = to step on

車 (chē) = vehicle

Mainland : 自行車 (zì xíng chē)

自 (zì) = one person (self)

行 (xíng) = to drive

車 (chē) = vehicle
